Visit to Total Lindsey Oil Refinery

On the morning of 7th July I was pleased to host pupils from year 5/6 on a visit to Total Lindsey Oil Refinery accompanied by Miss Burnett and Mrs Franks. The children were given a presentation about the origins and processing of crude oil (complete with Tardis and dinosaurs) before being escorted in two groups on a refinery tour which included a visit to the control room, effluent treatment plant and the fire station. This not only links to the science curriculum but also with work on the ancient Greeks as they got to see a working Archimedes screw pump. My colleague Steve Doyley who led the tour later wrote,” I must say they were a pleasure to take round as they were interested, asked plenty of questions…well behaved and a credit to the school, what more can you ask.” On a visit into school later in the week a number of children approached me to thank me and say how much they enjoyed it with one saying it was the best lesson he’d had!
